COMPANY BACKGROUND:
George Blood Audio/Video/Film/Data is a leading provider of audio and moving image preservation, digitization, and migration of obsolete data carriers. At our studios in Philadelphia, every month we digitize over 20,000 hours of A/V recordings in decaying and obsolete formats to a variety of digital formats, according to the needs of our various clients in libraries, museums, archives, corporations, and private collections across the country.

Video Digitization Engineer (second shift)

Reports to Director of Operations - Applicants new to the trade will work with senior staff and D.O. for training and supervision; experienced applicants will be expected to work independently after training on our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare video media for digitization
  • Align playback and record parameters
  • Digitize media
  • Gather and log technical and process metadata
  • Pass completed ingested files to Finishing department
    • Mostly VHS and U-matic
    • Born digital formats such as DVD and DV family
    • Exotic formats (we support 110+ legacy audiovisual formats)

Education and Skills:

  • Associates degree desired
  • BA/BS in Audio or video engineering or BA in Media or equivalent preferred, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with production staff and leadership with confidence and clarity
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Computer skills with word-processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail programs
  • Time-management and stress-management skills
  • High energy, results-driven person with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly, to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities, and to accept independence
  • Experience using Mac hardware preferred

Additional qualifications preferred, but not required:

  • Knowledge of legacy audio and video formats
  • Must be capable of lifting 50lbs unaided and sit for up to 8 hours per day

Audio Digitization Engineer

Reports to Director of Operations - Applicants new to the trade will work with senior staff and D.O. for training and supervision; experienced applicants will be expected to work independently after training on our systems.

Overview

The Audio Digitization Engineer is responsible for audio preparation and digitization while handling various legacy audio formats. You will join our growing team of experienced engineers and staff in a fast-paced and exciting work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare video media for digitization
  • Align playback and record parameters
  • Digitize media
  • Gather and log technical and process metadata
  • Pass completed ingested files to Finishing department - mainly audio cassettes, 1/4" reel-to-reel early born digital formats, analog discs and exotic formats (we support 110+ legacy audiovisual formats)

Education and Skills:

  • Associates degree desired
  • BA/BS in Audio or video engineering or BA in Media or equivalent preferred, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with production staff and leadership with confidence and clarity
  • Effective organizational skills

Disc Digitization Engineer (Second Shift)

Reports to Production Supervisor - Applicants new to the trade will work with senior staff and Production Supervisor for training and supervision; experienced applicants will be expected to work independently after training on our systems; understanding of basic audio signal flow recommended, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare video media for digitization
  • Align playback and record parameters
  • Digitize media
  • Gather and log technical, process and descriptive metadata
  • Take photographs of audio media discs (mainly 78rpm)

Education and Skills:

  • Associates degree desired
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with production staff
  • Effective organizational skills
  • strong attention to details
  • Computer skills with Mac-based software/hardware, word-processing and database navigation
  • Time and stress management skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and take intiative
  • Ability to focus and maintain high performance for extended periods of time
  • Punctuality and dependability required
